Film: Technology for Artists with Disabilities
Ben Hillman & Company has just completed a film for CATA (Community Access to the Arts) describing their remarkable A.R.T. program. A.R.T. (Artistic Realization Technologies) is a painting technique that provides people with severe physical disabilities the opportunity to paint with the assistance of laser pointers and trained trackers acting as the hands of the artist.
We shot several A.R.T. sessions in which disabled artists — who cannot hold a brush in their hands — were able to create stunning works of art by providing instructions to “trackers” — trained artists who act as intermediaries, following the instructions of the disabled artists. Footage of these sessions, in combination with interviews with the artists and their trackers, allowed us to make a portrait of these severely disabled people whose creativity would otherwise remain unknown.
The A.R.T. program is offered by CATA (Community Access to the Arts). CATA nurtures and celebrates the creativity of people with disabilities through shared experiences in the visual and performing arts.
Film Logo – Documentary
We designed this film logo for Sandipearl Production‘s “The Great Democracy of Nature.” The logo reflects an overarching theme of the film: the interconnectedness of all things in nature.
We were born into the great democracy of nature,… and more and more people are looking for ways to be its citizens again. . . . The surest way ahead is to trust the primal source that each life, human or nonhuman, embodies…

“Slipper” wins Book Trailer of the Day
The book industry newsletter Shelf Awareness has selected “Slipper” as Book Trailer of the Day. The author wanted something upbeat and musical and we gave it to her. You can watch the trailer here.
Shelf Awareness is a newsletter that provides booksellers and librarians the information they need to sell and lend books. It appears every business day and is read by people throughout the book industry.
Slipper is a novel by Hester Velmans available from Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and Indiebound.org
“Slipper is the most engaging novel I have read in a long time. Part romantic love story, part fairy tale, part feminist commentary, this is a wonderful, old fashioned novel to be savored. It is as if a graduate student had stumbled upon a handwritten, 19th century manuscript in the British Library, read it, and declared, ‘There was a fourth Bronte sister — and she was the most talented of the brood!'” — Daniel Klein, best-selling author of Travels with Epicurus, Plato and Platypus Walk into a Bar and others

Slipper – book trailer
Hester wanted her book trailer to be something that would definitely say Not A Romance Novel. Maybe with music? This is what we came up with. All the art is historical, if not hysterical.
Meanwhile we designed the book cover, too.
Hester’s historical novel, SLIPPER, is out now. It’s available from Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, and Indiebound.org

Here’s the poster for the 2016 season — with a nod to Rosemary’s Baby.
Garbage Train
I waited many years to be in the right place at the right time to get a shot of the elusive NY subway Garbage Train. This year it finally happened.
Berkshire Playwrights Lab poster
Once in awhile, I still like to churn out a poster here and there to keep my print chops in shape. Theater posters are my favorite and for the last few years, I have been doing the season poster for the Berkshire Playwrights Lab. They’re all based around a 1930s Remington typewriter. Here’s the latest.
Animations and Titles for “The Burden”
The Burden is a documentary feature by Roger Sorkin about the U.S. military’s fight for clean energy. We created the titles and animated sequences for this live action film. The movie premiered at the Environmental Film Festival in Washington D.C. at the U.S. Navy Memorial Theater on March 27, 2015 where it was received to great acclaim by members of the government, the press and the military. Kudos to Roger for a great and very important film.
